The artcraft in Cape Verde has recently born. Items wooden
decorated, ceramic, batik colourfully painted, coconut
wooden scupture, neckless made with shells, sandy portraits.
You can find any of this item in the numerous shops in
Santa Maria. Many articles are not produced in Ilha do
Sal, but imported by the other islands, as Santiago and
Sao Vicente, as well as from Senegal.
SHOPS
Shops are closed on Sundays and National Holidays. During
week days they are open till 8:00 p.m., Saturday till
5:00 p.m. Some shops, in certain period of the year when
the touriste's affluence is quite high,(Xmas, Easter)
are open every day till late evening.
SURF 'N SOUL
Don't miss to visit this shop: perfectly designed and
decorated by locals (beautiful the island shaped table)
has all equipments for surfers, clothes (Surfnsoul and
major surfers brands, like Reetvield, Reef, Maui&Sons),
bodyboard, surfboard. The right wing of the shop is dedicated
to Cape Verde art: here you will find real artcraft produced
in Cape Verde Islands made with coco, shells, terracotta,
batik, embroidery, neckless made with seals. Moreover
you can admire masterpieces from local Artists, which
have been shown in New York, Paris and others european
capitals.
